RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The man shot and killed outside a home in South Richmond Wednesday night was no stranger to violence. He had been shot and injured exactly one year ago, according to his mother.

"Why is everybody trying to hurt my kids?" Gloria Jones asked. "My kids don't do nothing to nobody."

Jones identified the shooting victim as her son, 33-year-old Ivan Bridges.

On Thursday police identified the victims as Ebony Hurd, 33, of the 1800 block of Joplin Avenue. The male has been identified as Ivan T. Bridges, 33, of the 3400 block of Oregon Oak Drive, Chesterfield.

Bridges and Hurd were shot while sitting in a vehicle outside Jones's home along the 2100 block of Mimosa Street. Bridges died at the scene. The woman was taken to the hospital where she later died.

"What the hell is going on with everyone in this world?" Jones asked. "They want to take my kids away from me. It's sad."

Richmond Police detectives and K9 officers spent Wednesday night in the Southside neighborhood hoping to find clues to help them determine who was responsible for the shooting and why it happened.

"We're focused on the alleyways of the house, the easements of the house," Richmond Police Capt. Marty Harrison said. "We have no definites of where [the gunmen] came from. We're exploring all leads."

Harrison asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.

A woman consoling the grieving mother said she could not understand why someone would shoot Bridges.

"He was not a threat because he was cripple," she said. "He could not walk."

When asked if they had a message to the people responsible for the shooting the woman said,"the message is, what comes around goes around."
